Avandia
Avandia is used by medical professionals to increase patient sensitivity to insulin. It was approved for use by the FDA in May of 1999. The American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association issued recommendations in hopes of guiding the use of Avandia. According to a recent study, Diabetics who suffer from mild heart disease or any problems regarding their kidneys may posess an elevated risk of developing congestive heart failure if certain medications for diabetes are taken in combination with the drug.
The makers of the drug, GlaxoSmithKline, and the FDA issued a joint statement in January of 2006 reporting occurences of blurred vision and swollen feet and legs in patients using Avandia. Upwards of 6 million people worldwide have been prescribed Avandia.
