Dangerous Drugs - Raptiva
In July 2005, the FDA unveiled a new warning for the Genentech-produced psoriasis drug Raptiva (efalizumab) following reports of four cases of hemolytic anemia. Each case was diagnosed four to six months after patients began using the drug.
In two severe cases outlined in a "Dear Healthcare Provider" letter issued by Genetech, Raptiva was shown to potentially cause hemoglobin levels to plummet. The packaging of the drug has since been modified to include a warning describing these dangerous side effects.
